Monthly Construction Goals

  Goals for November 2006

• Build second level over Residences 3 & 4 (Cook's apartment and Director's suite)
  DONE 
• Plaster interior of the RV washroom laundry... DONE install bathroom sink, tile the shower, laundry tub and  hot water tank. January 
• Remove and clean forms from ceiling of dining room and kitchen. DONE
• Install interior doors in Residences 1 & 2 and start to plaster interior walls

Goals for December 2006

• set up ceiling forms over Cook's apartment and director's suitewill be done
• excavate and form for foundation for courtyard posts and archesJanuary
• excavate for septic tank and field on left side of orphanage and construct 2000 gallon septic tank DONE two tanks and two tile fields... not just one.

Goals for January 2007

• Complete formwork for roof over Cook's and Director's apartment and place and finish the concrete roof.

• Excavate and form the last foundations.. for the courtyard arches, front entance, multi-purpose room and dental surgery.

• Build back stairs by the kitchen breezeway.
  DONE
• Complete interior stucco of Residence One. DONE 
• Complete the parapet over the Cook's and Director's apartments. DONE
• Place and finish the concrete foundation for the courtyard arches and front enry phase.  DONE
  in addition, due to the heavy rainstorm, we installed a temporary water collection system to catch the runoff water from the roof scuppers.  
• Volunteers Lorne and Gail Booth from Alberta, and Russ and Marion Mitchelson from Peachland BC, Canada arrived to help us.  Thank you for coming and helping us reach our goals!
  

Goals for February 2007

• Make and place adobes for front entrance, bell tower, multipurpose room and dental surtery.
  Done
• Start making arches around the courtyard to support the upper patio access to second level apartments.
  We got 16 arches completed this month
• remove ceiling forms over Cook's apartment and director's suite. Done
• Set up forms to pour second floor slab over multipurpose room, etc. and pour the complete second level slab. Done
• Begin exterior stucco on Director's and Cook's apartments.
• Make and install vigas on second level exterior elevations

• We want to thank the volunteers Hal and Erika Eamon, Ellen Lamb, Marrisa Williams and Sarah Molyneaux from Warburg, Alberta and Geri & Werner Seidel from Beiseker, Alberta for helping us to reach our goals!

Goals for March 2007

• Finish the last of the 24 arches around the courtyard. DONE 
• Build four triangular planters in the  courtyard corners
• Finish the second level adobes over entrance, etc.ready for concrete roof. DONE
• Prepare forms for second level roof  DONE
• Place and finish the concrete on the second level roof DONE
• Parge interior walls of both septic tanks
• Apply 10-year guarantee roof emulsion on Cook's and Director's apartments DONE
• Prepare forms for conrete patio on the other three sides over the arches DONE
• We thank 21 volunteers who came from Webber University, Utah and Jonathan & Janae Neufeld for helping us to reach our goals.  Also a great big thanks to voliunteers Lorne and Gail Booth from Riley Alberta who have helped us for THREE MONTHS!

Goals for April 2007

• Place and finish the concrete patios over the arches on last three sides DONE
• Complete the adobes on the bell tower ALMOST DONE... the last ten feet is the hardest! ... we just ran out of time to do it and still get everything covered with stucco.
• Make and install the rest of the vigas on all sides of the building DONE
• Complete the stucco on all the new adobes placed this season DONE
• Install 54 windows so all orphanage is secured and six garden doors on the dining room DONE
• Install two beezeway gates and double front entry gate with locks DONE
• Complete road base for loop road from RV Park around the orphanage DONE
• Thanks to volunteer Gerry Bernard from Alberta Canada, who amazed me with how much he could do with one arm and a prosthetic! 
    

Goals for November/December 2007

• Remove forms and posts from patio ceiling and second level guest room, bodega and stairway DONE
• Clean all forms, posts and stack plywood and posts from Dining room back of bodega driveway DONE
• Complete adobes in bell tower,  DONE except for parapet 
• Finish interior stucco on ceilings on both Residences One and Two... DONE
• Build concrete countertops in Cooks & Director's apartments, guest room vanity, dental and visitor's bath DONE
• Residence One ceramic tile installed in showers  DONE
• Spray interior walls with finish stucco texture and color.  Not yet
• install floor tiles in Residence One.  Not yet
• Stucco interior walls Dining room and Kitchen  DONE

Goals for January 2008

• Complete adobe parapets on the bell tower and kitchen stairwell roofs  DONE
• Staple chicken wire and apply stuccoto the top of the bell tower and stairwell  DONE
• Form and pour parking lot sidewalk and curb for 7 vehicles DONE
• Complete 16 of the 19 showers  DONE
• Excavate for front gate footings, then form and pour the concrete  DONE
• The upstairs bodega was painted and floor tiled... the first room to be moved into  DONE  81 more rooms to do!
